Maison — The Leather
It begins
with a touch.
Leather cannot be understood by sight alone. Its warmth and softness in the hand, the grain beneath your fingers, the volume it takes when folded, the way its color deepens in the light: its character reveals itself up close.

French Leather
Leather from
Rémy Carriat.
French leather is at the beginning of the JOCQUELINE story. Leather from the French tannery Rémy Carriat connects where we began with who we are today: a natural surface, a supple touch and a rich expression of color.
We don't choose leather for its label. We ask three questions. Does it feel good in the hand? Does the color have depth, rather than sitting on the surface? Will it grow more beautiful with use?
Our signature leather is Lagun, from the tannery's Taurillon range: young bull leather, mineral-tanned and dip-dyed, with a full-grain semi-aniline finish that is grained and drummed for a supple, silky hand.

Taurillon
What is
Taurillon?
Taurillon comes from a young bovine, about a year old: no longer a calf, not yet a bull. At this age the hide is both soft and dense. It feels supple in the hand, holds up to everyday life, and grows more beautiful with use.
Our Leathers
Two leathers,
one standard.

Lagun
Our signature leather
Full-grain and semi-aniline, mineral-tanned and dip-dyed, then grained and drummed for a supple, rounded hand. Used for our leather bags, including LUMA, and our iPhone cases.

Gochoki
Our nubuck
The same Taurillon, its grain lightly buffed to a soft, silky surface, with water- and oil-repellent protection. Used for our nubuck collection.

Natural Grain
Natural grain,
honest character.
Good leather is not beautiful because it is uniform. It is beautiful because it keeps the subtle differences left by nature. We don't hide that individuality; we make it part of the design.
Because every hide is natural, slight variations in grain and tone from piece to piece are a mark of genuine leather, not a flaw.

Material First
Material first,
then form.
We begin by understanding the character of the leather, and only then consider the shape. Some leathers ask for a soft, flowing silhouette; others show a clear structure more beautifully.
Sometimes the leather comes before the design. A single hide, its color and its touch, becomes the beginning of a new bag.
Leather to live with.
Good leather becomes more familiar the more it is touched. Use it freely and let it carry your days. An object truly becomes yours through use.
- Keep it away from long hours of sun, heat and moisture.
- If it gets wet, blot gently with a soft, dry cloth and let it dry naturally.
- Store it filled, in its dust bag, away from direct light.
- For nubuck, a soft brush refreshes the nap.
